In the Uttarakhanda of Shree Gokarnapuran, the detail description of the origin of “Shree Aryadurga Devi” is as under –
Sootmuni is telling the story of Goddess SHREE ARYADURGA DEVI to King Shatanik.
“The Asur named Vrutrasur, borne by Sindhudweep and Vetravati, was the King of Pragjyotishpur. He was a very powerful king. He did war with all of his enemies and defeated them and captured entire earth under his control. Thereafter, he went in the Heaven and played a war with Devendra and defeated him and captured the Heaven also under his control. He killed all the Dikpal (the owner of directions) and appointed new ones. All Rushi and Gods, who were feared of Vrutrasur, went to the Brahmalok to make grievance against him to God Brahmadev. They prayed with God Brahmadev to God Mahavishnu. God Mahavishnu heard the events happened in Swargalok, Rushi and Gods. God Mahavishnu got angered on Vrutrasur.
The powers came through the mouth of God Mahavishnu and God Brahmadev, also by forehead of all Gods and Goddess came together which formed a Goddess named SHREE ARYADURGA DEVI. The Divyatej of Ishwar made the hairs and the hands by Vishnutej, breast by Somtej, stomach by Indratej, thighs by Varuntej, waist by the Tej of Pruthvi, legs by Brahmatej, fingers of legs by Suryatej, fingers of hand by Vasutej, nose by Kubertej, teeth by Prajapati tej, eyes by Vayutej, eyebrows by the Tej of Goddess Sandhya and the ears by Agnitej.
Vrutrasur got feared when he saw SHREE ARYADURGA DEVI. Bhagwan Shiv gave her his Trishul, Mahavishnu gave her Sudarshanchakra, Brahmadev gave her Brahma dand, Yam gave her Yam danda, Varun gave Varun pash, Vayudev gave her Divya Dhanushya, Indra gave her Vajra and Ayudh (weapon) and Agni gave her Divyashakti. Also Kaaldev gave her Khadga, Samudraraja gave Shankha and Kshirsamudradhipati gave Divyachudamani, Himparvatraj gave her lion, ratna, ghanta and airavat, Vishvadev gave Kirit and various weapons and aabharane (cloths).
After that SHREE ARYADURGA DEVI roared. Due to roar of SHREE ARYADURGA DEVI, the entire earth got vibrated. All Gods prayed her to kill Vrutrasur.
Devi, you are whole and sole Siddhi & Buddhi and Ahankarswarupi, our egos lacs in front of you. Rhim is your Beejmantra. You are our origin who is stated in the stomach of Trimurti Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. All four Ved are a part of you. You are Durjay, who will never won by anyone, and you are also Durgam, hence you are named Durga.”
